MY CONTRIBUTION
During my internship at GE Appliances, I took full ownership of several key features for the SmartHQ app, including the AI assistant, AI-powered recipe experience, and multiple appliance control screens. Here are six examples that are all shipped.

For each feature I design, my process encompasses receiving design requirements, ideating multiple iterations, collaborating with various teams, conducting user tests or internal evaluations, and ultimately delivering the final design.

FEATURE ABSTRACT

As an appliance company committed to energy efficiency, GE Appliances aims to encourage users to conserve water and electricity by providing visualized usage data. This feature will appear as a clickable card on the washer control page, leading to a detailed page. It should meet the following requirements:

-
Show different time range
-
Visualization with two units
-
Energy-saving behavior
DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

IDEATIONS
The ideation process explored a variety of data visualization styles to effectively present hot water usage across different time frames. I tested combinations of chart types, layouts, and toggles to compare gallons used and cycle count, aligning with key design goals. The focus was on clarity, visual hierarchy, and ease of interpretation, leading to a direction that felt intuitive and consistent with SmartHQ’s visual language.

FEATURE ABSTRACT

As a kitchen vent hood feature, this product helps users maintain a healthier indoor environment by making air quality easy to understand and act on. Through approachable characters and intuitive interactions grounded in emotional design principles, it builds trust and encourages ongoing engagement.

A friendly character not only acts as an relatable visual representation, turning abstract air quality data into something direct and accessible, but also builds a sense of companionship, encouraging users to check in regularly just like caring for a pet or plant.
DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

IDEATIONS
Various objects were proposed during brainstorming to represent "Air Quality." The cloud and leaf were ultimately selected for their simple forms and clear, direct association with the concept.

PROTOTYPE
Building on the cloud and leaf concept, six groups of icon ideations were prototyped for further evaluation, featuring a range of styles and visual expressions.

EVALUATION
This geometric-style weather cloud set stands out for balancing emotional friendliness with a clear, structured design. It feels welcoming while still maintaining an official, trustworthy tone.
